Karlsruhe-Knielingen

July 17-19, 1998
3rd International Karmann-Ghia Meeting in Karlsruhe-Knielingen

I was also here - but only for the first day. The weather wasn't as nice as at Alzenau but it was nevertheless a successful meeting. Altogether about 100 automobiles were present.

The aim was to break the record set in America for the largest number of type 34 ("big Karmann") Karmann-Ghias (22 vehicles). And with 32 vehicles we naturally did this! Congratulations! More on this on the page of the Käferclub Karlsruhe e.V..

The greatest distance traveled was apparently from Austria: 1000 km. I had traveled approximately 10,000 km since leaving home (see Vacation trip) but unfortunately only the distance from Berlin could officially be counted... or maybe they just didn't believe me! ;-)

Here are a few photographic impressions:

The record for type 34 Karmann-Ghias:

But I only had eyes for the good old, beautiful, round type 14 Karmann-Ghia:

An engine compartment can also look like this:
(Original, two type 4s and two water-cooled engines)

Well, Mr. Pietch, a modern Karmann-Ghia could also look like this:
(It can even run with a water-cooled GTI engine)

Who has the fairest paint job of them all?
(I found number 3 overwhelmingly beautiful)

... and here are a few other items I found:
(the convertible with my ideal interior color - mine is in the background;
funny, how one searches for everything having to do with the Karmann-Ghia - and here of all places!
Notice the trailer hooked on to the back and the turn signal attachments on the wings)

Even the on-lookers were of quality stuff:

Some more nice photos by Bernd Schneller can also be found on the pages of the Karmann-Ghia Club Rems-Murr...
